President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the newly proposed assistance program of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) which aims to provide cash aid for all the people affected by the enhanced community quarantine imposed in the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus.
The NCR plus bubble includes Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Cavite, and Laguna which are now placed under ECQ from March 29 to April 4 due to their increased number of COVID-19 cases.
In the weekly talk of the people of Pres. Duterte, Budget Secretary Wendell Avisado said that the program has 22.9 million beneficiaries or 80 percent of the population in NCR plus who will receive P1,000 in-kind assistance per individual.
He added that the DBM will release P22.99 billion directly to the local government units in the NCR plus bubble to distribute the cash aid.
Of the total budget, about P11.2 billion will be allotted for the NCR, P3 billion is for Bulacan, P3.4 billion for Cavite, P2.7 billion for Laguna, and P2.6 billion for Rizal.
Under the program, only four individuals in the family will be qualified for the cash aid. Other qualifications for the beneficiaries are yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, Pres. Duterte wants the program to kick off immediately in the first week of April.
