‘Ang Probinsyano’ star Coco Martin paid tribute to FPJ, Susan Roces

Lead actor of  "Ang Probinsyano," Coco Martin, paid tribute to Susan Roces and Fernando Poe Jr. one week after the show's conclusion.

Martin thanked the pair for their contributions to the entertainment industry in an Instagram post where he lighted candles for them.

“Maraming maraming salamat ni po FPJ at Lola Susan! Mahal na mahal ko po kayo!” Martin said in the caption.

The iconic teleserye "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano," which aired for seven years and left a lasting impression on pop culture, came to an end on Friday with the title character, played by Coco Martin, going back to the province to start over. This marked the end of an era for Philippine television.

Over the course of its seven-year run, "Ang Probinsyano" left a lasting impression on local pop culture thanks to its dynamic plot that mirrored contemporary events. Following in the footsteps of his idol, Fernando Poe, Jr., whose 1996 film served as the series' inspiration, Martin, the series' actor who eventually rose to the position of creative director, solidified his position as the king of TV and action.

"Ang Probinsyano" was the undisputed No. 1 TV show in the Philippines for five years up until mid-2020, when ABS-CBN was pushed off free television, according to Kantar Media.

After the network's broadcast went down, the series gradually regained its large audience by moving to digital channels. "Ang Probinsyano" lead ABS-CBN titles in reaching successive audience milestones on Kapamilya Online Live during the past two years. It had consistently high audience numbers leading up to its end, with the last episode setting an all-time high of 536,543 concurrent live viewers.
