It was a double celebration, indeed, for the working-student mom Melissa Marvic who was informed of topping the licensure examination for teachers on the same day that she welcomed her new baby.
Marvic gave birth to her third child via cesarean section on April 29, 2022. On the same date, she also received the news that she was ranked 6th on March 2022 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LET) secondary level with a 91 percent rating.
In her interview with Palawan News on May 6, Marvic said that it was her friend, Archie, who told her the good news after her operation.
“‘Ate, nakita mo na ba yung result? Hindi ka lang pumasa, Top 6 ka! Top 6!’
“’Tapos hindi pa ako umimik agad, pino-process ko pa kasi parang nagha-hallucinate pa ako dahil sa anesthesia,” narrated Marvic who also graduated as a midwife before.
According to the newly licensed teacher, her board exam journey was never easy because apart from teaching as an English subject teacher for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) of Grade 11 students in Metro Manila College while she is pregnant, she still has to take care of her two other children at home.
On top of these, she and her husband is also having financial difficulty. As a matter of fact, just to be able to take the LET, she borrowed PHP 900 from her best friend to pay the application fee.
But in the end, Marvic's struggles were all worth the while as she is now a board topnotcher, licensed teacher, and a loving mother of three.
"Sino ba naman ang mag-aakala na yung babae na walang nagtitiwala, nanghihiram lang ng pera para makakain lang kaming mag-iina, ngayon ay topnotcher na?" said Marvic.
Marvic now wants to be an inspiration not only to the youth but also to adults who are having hesitations to pursue their dreams.
“Iyan ang gusto kong makita ng mga kabataan ngayon, kahit yung mga may asawa na.
“Hindi pa huli ang lahat. Huwag kang bumitaw agad. Huwag kang mawalan ng pag-asa na balang araw, ibang tao ka na.”
