Mike Enriquez, to help fellow patients suffering from kidney problem

After his challenging experience brought by his kidney problem, GMA News pillar Mike Enriquez plans to help unfortunate patients suffering from the same disease.

In an interview in "Kapuso Showbiz News," the veteran broadcaster shared that now that he surpassed the challenge of undergoing a kidney transplant, he realized how blessed he is to have the means of doing such expensive treatment.

"'Pag pinagdaanan mo 'yung pinagdaanan ko, mare-realize mo how good God was to me, and how I should... pay it forward," said Mike.

Mike used to have a dialysis session three to four times a week but now that he underwent a kidney transplant, he will no longer need a dialysis treatment.

Although his battle with his kidney problem was never easy, Mike still believes that those people who do not have enough money to support their treatment have a more difficult situation than him.

"Maraming Pilipino na walang kalaban-laban simply because wala silang pera," he said.

"It breaks my heart when people come to me asking for help. It breaks my heart to know about dialysis patients, 'yung mga nangingitim. Kaya nangingitim 'yun kasi underdialyzed. Kulang sa dialysis. Bakit sila underdialyzed? Kasi walang pera," he added.

According to Mike, he wants to join his friends who are also transplant patients planning to build an organization that will help patients with kidney problems access free treatment.

"So I will be meeting with our group and figure out ways and means of helping our brothers and sisters who need dialysis, who need kidney procedures but cannot have it because they cannot afford it."

Last December, Mike filed a medical sick leave for his kidney procedure and after just three months, he was able to go back to his work.
