Honesty reigns in the heart of a 27-year-old room attendant of Hotel Sogo in Mexico, Pampanga after discovering a bag filled with P130,000 in cash left by a guest.
According to the report of Provincial Information Office (PIO) Pampanga last January 16, 2022, the incident happened on January 4, 2022.
After a guest checked out from the room, hotel attendant Arjay Montemayor went in and found a bag under a table.
“Nung lumabas na po yung guest at itse-check ko po yung kuwarto niya, habang tsine-check ko nga po yung mga kagamitan sa kuwarto, napansin ko nga po yung bag niya, na nasa tabi po siya ng lamesa, sa ibaba po," said Arjay.
After noticing the bag, Arjay's immediate response was to call one of his colleagues to report the forgotten bag to their hotel supervisor.
Because of that, the bag was successfully returned to the owner. According to the guest, the money is intended to be used for the payroll of his employees.
“Di ako natukso na itago ang pera, dahil hindi ko naman pagmamay-ari iyon.
“Kahit mahirap ang buhay ngayon, di ko po naisip kuhanin o itago man yung perang iyon.
“Dahil hindi ko po pinaghirapan, e. Hindi siya masarap gastusin kung sakali man po, na hindi mo naman pinagpaguran. Wala pong kapupuntahan na maganda.”
As a reward, Arjay is promoted as a probationary employee from being a project employee status. He will also receive a plaque of recognition and a lunch treat for his entire family.
