Taal volcano erupts; alarm now raises to alert level 3

Taal volcano once again erupted today, Thursday (July 1), from 3:16 to 3:21 of the afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLC-DOST).

From a footage obtained by the Main Crater Station, a 1-kilometer high  dark phreatomagmatic eruption was captured in the said volcano.

Because of  this, the PHIVOLCS has already raised the alert level 2 (increasing unrest) to alert level 3 (magmatic unrest).

"In view of the above, DOST-PHIVOLCS is now raising the alert status of Taal from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3.  This means that there is magmatic intrusion at the Main Crater that may further drive succeeding eruptions," said PHIVOLCS in its public announcement.

"PHIVOLCS strongly recommends Taal Volcano Island and high-risk barangays of Agoncillo and Laurel, Batangas be evacuated due to the possible hazards of pyroclastic density currents and volcanic tsunami," it added.

Entry into the island and even to high-risk barangasy of Agoncillo and Laurel is now prohibited for the safety of the public.
