A boy from Barangay Panubtuban, Ifugao is now earning praises from the netizens after he was recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd) for returning money amounting more than P100,000 back to the owner.

In the Facebook post of the Department of Education (DepEd) Tayo Youth Formation Division Office, 11-year-old Denard Uy-uyon was proudly introduced to the public for being a role model to other children.

“It was validated lately that this learner Denard B. Uy-uyon, 11 years old, a grade V pupil of Panubtuban Elementary School, Asipulo District found a big cash in the amount of P102,450.00 and gave to his mother. Eventually, they were able to contact the owner and gave [back] the money,” said DepEd Tayo Youth Formation Division Office on July 17.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Uy-uyon shared that the incident happened in May when he accidentally saw a pouch inside a jeepney that he was riding.

When he saw  the huge amount of money, he immediately brought the pouch to his Mother Daisy who hurriedly called the owner upon seeing the ID and contact number inside the pouch.

"Tiningnan ko kung may ID sa pouch, nakita ko 'yung receipt mula sa Landbank kasi kawi-withdraw pala sa araw na 'yun at doon ko nakita 'yung number ni Ate Myrna," said Daisy.

According to Uy-uyon, he did not hesitate to return the money because he wants to be honest just like how her parents told him to do so.

Because of this, many got so fond of him that a resident from Kiangan, Ifugao gave him P10,000 as a reward.
