Raffy Tulfo urges DOH Sec. Francisco Duque to resign amid COVID-19 surge

Host and broadcast journalist Raffy Tulfo has once again urged health secretary Francisco Duque III to resign from his position due to incompetency amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a new episode of Raffy Tulfo in Action uploaded on Youtube last Saturday (April 3), Tulfo questioned Duque why he still wanted to serve as the health secretary when a lot of people, even his fellow doctors and government officials are asking him to step down.

This is the second time that Tulfo released a statement urging Duque to resign together with Food and Drug Administration Chief Eric  Domingo.

"Even the senators na kaalyado ng pangulo, pinagre-resign na po kayo, maging mga kapwa niyo doktor nagsasabi na it's time for you to go, pero bakit ayaw niyo pa rin sir?" Tulfo fiercely said.

"Sir (Duque) naman, kung talagang ang intensyon niyo lang ay ang maglingkod sa bayan, at kabila niyan ay ikaw ay binabatikos, at sinasabing wala kang silbi, umalis ka na diyan then leave!" he added.

Tulfo believed that there are anomalies and corruption happening between the Department of Health and the FDA, one of which is the controversial approval of the agency to potential COVID-19 treatment like Ivermectin and Lianhua Qingwen capsule from China.

He said, the use of Ivermectin, P35 each, and Lianhua Qingwen capsule, P25 each,  were halted by the DOH and FDA because these drugs are too cheap for Duque and Domingo to earn so much unlike in Remdesivir which can cost P18,000 in every injection.

Ivermectin is a drug used for animals and people to treat some conditions caused by parasites but there is still not enough evidence that can prove that it can help in treating COVID-19 patients. Even the World Health Organization asserted that it can only be used within clinical trials.

On the other hand, Lianhua Qingwen capsule, a traditional Chinese medicine, was seen to be helpful in speeding the recovery of COVID-19 patients but it is not proven effective in preventing severe infection from happening.
