The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has raised the alert level 2 in Taal Volcano in Batangas due to episodes of volcanic activity recorded by the agency, Tuesday (March 9).
Under the 2nd alert level, a probable magmatic activity is expected which may or may not lead to a volcanic eruption. Evacuation is not yet recommended but entry on the danger zone of Taal Volcano island is already prohibited.
The state seismologists also advised the local government units to strengthen their preparedness and communication measures just in case a volcanic eruption occured. Residents are also encouraged to remain calm and believe only information that is coming from trusted sources.
The phivolcs said, in the past 24 hours there have been 28 episodes of volcanic tremors resulting in a total of 866 since the volcanic activity started on February 13.
The Taal Volcano last erupted on January 12, 2020 resulting in loss of livelihoods and leaving hundreds of people homeless. As a matter of fact, more than 70,000 people were evacuated in a shelter while some were forced to move to other provinces.
