Missing Filipina found dead, burned in Canada; 2 Filipino suspects arrested

 


After being reported missing, a 49-year-old Filipina was found dead  and burned in the City of Burnaby, Vancouver, Canada, according to the local police, Thursday (March 25) (Friday, March 26 in the Philippines).


The authorities identified  the victim as  Maria Cecilia Loreto, an immigrant who was first reported missing on March 17. 


Based on the report, Loreto was killed and burned by a Filipino suspect recognized as Carlo Tobias, 21, together with his 15-year-old accomplice who was not named due to his age. 


The authorities believed that the victim was murdered on the evening of March 17 in her home in New Westminster which is eight kilometers away  from the park where her burned remains were found. 


The two suspects were already arrested and currently facing charges of first degree murder and indignity to human remains. Their motive for killing is not disclosed by the authorities because of sensitivity.


Loreto was known for her passion in singing and as an active member of the local Filipino community in Burnaby. Her close friends also remember her as a kind, generous, and cheerful woman.
