Award-winning actress Cherie Gil passed away at the age of 59, her family announced on Friday.
Her nephew and fellow actor Sid Lucero said that Gil has been ill for some time but no further details were given.
“Let’s also stand by for the details and plans from her immediate family,” Lucero said.
Her friend Annabelle Rama already sent her sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family.
“CHERIE GIL JUST PASSED AWAY AT 5PM TODAY PLEASE PRAY FOR HER,” Rama said.
Born Evangeline Rose Gil Eigenmann, Cherie was one of the veteran actresses in the Philippines that almost everyone looked up to.
She was best known as Lavinia Arguelles, where she said one of Philippine cinema’s most iconic lines, "You're nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!" in “Bituing Walang Ningning,” co-starring Sharon Cuneta as Dorina.
