Bibingka is the 13th best cake in the world, according to Taste Atlas

The famous Filipino coconut rice cake, bibingka, has landed the 13th spot on the list of  50 best cakes in the world released by the online travel food guide Taste Atlas for the month of July.

The Pinoy Christmas staple even outranked internationally famous delicacies like Spain’s Basque Cheesecake, which ranked 22nd, and the classic American molten chocolate cake, which came in at 35th place.

Bibingka got a 4.4 rating in Taste Atlas because of its homy and comforting taste. This rating is based on the average audience scores.

The humble Pinoy cake is made with glutinous rice and coconut milk and baked in a terracotta oven lined with banana leaves. After the baking has finished, it is topped with salted egg and cheese, then, it will be served with grated coconut and butter or margarine. It can be perfectly paired with coffee or ginger tea.

Meanwhile, the  Bulgarian torta garash, a chocolate cake made with walnuts, egg whites, and powdered sugar has topped the list.
