Student who lives in 'barong-barong house, now a head engineer

From a house made of recycled woods and plastics, Crystalle Mae Malonzo can surely now afford to move into a more comfortable home as she is already a head engineer after how many years of hard work and sacrifices.

Malonzo is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in Colegio De San Juan De Letran-Calamba. She is an academic excellence awardee in their batch and a passer of the 2020 Mechanical Engineering Licensure Exam.

The young lady went viral online last year after she touched the hearts of many netizens with her inspiring story of success.

Malonzo used to live in a barong-barong house. Even as a child, she is well aware of how unfortunate they are in terms of wealth.

Coming from a broken family, it was only her mother who provided for the needs of her siblings. But, when her mother can no longer support them all financially, Lola Gloria took over and carried the responsibility of sending Malonzo to school.

Lola Gloria is a vendor and a caretaker. Knowing the exhaustion of her grandmother from her work, Malonzo did find ways to support her daily expenses in school.

She used to sell various products when she was in elementary, high school, and even college. Despite them not having enough money, Malonzo was able to study in a private school where she worked hard to become an honor student so she can be qualified for a scholarship.

“Sa awa ng Diyos, ako po ay nakapagtapos na Academic Excellence Awardee hanggang sa nakapasa rin po ako ng board exam."

Lola Gloria is very proud of the achievement of her granddaughter that she even customized a tarpaulin congratulating Malonzo for passing the board exam.

"Ganito pala ang nararamdaman mo na malaman mo na ang iyong apo ay isa sa mga pumasa sa board exam,” said Lola Gloria.

“Naiisip ko yung mga nangyari sa buhay naming dalawa na tuwing bayaran sa school, wala kaming pambayad. Puro pakiusap," she added.

Now, the tarpaulin is Lola Gloria's, and Malonzo's favorite part of their barong-barong house as this reminds them of what they have gone through before reaching their triumph in life

Indeed, success is not elusive to those who strive.
