Student judged for delaying licensure exam; becomes top 2 in CPA board exam

Everything happens at the right time. This is what Yanna Jillianne Beriarmente Cruz prove to many people as she became the top 2 in May 2022 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination.

Yanna is a product of Polytechnic University of the Philippines Manila Campus. She topped the board exam with a rating of 88.17 percent.

According to the topnotcher in her Facebook post on June 2, 2022, it took three years  before she was able to take the board exam.

Yanna graduated in 2019 but decided to delay her board exam due to her fear of not passing the test and disappointing many people expecting too much from her because of her past achievements.

When Yanna is still studying, she used to be a member of PUP Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) Manila's Finests. She won many awards in interschool, regional, and national competitions.

"The pressure of graduating with flying colors is no joke. Sobrang bigat. The expectations surrounding me affect me so, so much," said Yanna

“Muntik na nga ako mabaliw, eh, cheret!” she added.

Because of the delay in her board exam, many people judged her until she felt like what she did was the biggest mistake in her life.

“I always wonder, why does it have to be this way? Why do I have to be delayed for so so long?

“I really thought it was a big mistake na I skipped that exam.”

“I was so lost. I had to endure all the judgments. It's so painful to think that I am such a failure. I was definitely unmotivated because of the uncertainties.”

In 2020 and 2021, Yanna did not attempt to take the exam because of the pandemic. It was only in 2022 when she finally dared to take the board exam. However, she did not tell anyone about it to avoid disappointment.

And when the result of the May 2022 CPA licensure exam came, she surprised everybody not only by passing it but also by being one of the topnotchers.

“Hindi ko po talaga ine-expect. Sa totoo lang po, akala ko po talaga nung una ay babagsak ako.

"Sobrang nahirapan po ako sa isang subject namin. Sobrang worried po ako dahil sa subject na yun.

“I can’t contain my happiness. Pinuntahan ko po agad ang sister ko 'tapos umiyak ako [nang] umiyak sa sobrang saya!”

This may probably be the reason why Yanna has no regrets about delaying her board exam. She believes that trusting the process and not giving up is always the key to success.

Yanna plans to expand her professional skills in auditing. Currently, she is employed as an audit associate in an auditing firm.
