The conflict between Senator Manny Pacquiao and Mayor of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur Chavit Singson seems to have gotten deeper as the latter gave unflattering and sharp comments on November 17.
“Hindi pa siguro panahon ni Sen. Manny Pacquiao,” Narvacan said in his interview with Inquirer.net, referring to the presidential run of the athlete turned politician under a separate faction of the ruling PDP-Laban party.
“Unang-una hindi siya qualified. Ang presidente kasi you have to be well educated if not well experienced," Singson went on.
Singson fiercely added that it will only be a shame for the Philippines if Pacquiao will be elected as the chief executive of the country.
“Hindi puwedeng i-elect mo yung presidente na mapapahiya tayo dahil yan ang mukha nating Pilipino,” he said.
Singson and Pacquiao were former allies back then. Singson even used to accompany Pacquiao with all his major fights. However, it is said that their partnership turned sour after Pacquiao supported the revisions to the excise tax law on tobacco — a major source of livelihood for farmers in his home province.
