Massive tornado hits Tamauini, Isabela; 11 families affected


Residents from Tamauini, Isabela were left in shock after a massive tornado  passed by in the area last Monday (June 1).


It was four o'clock in the afternoon when a resident noticed the formation of the tornado in the part of Barangay Lanna.


According to Lhan Ilustre Macalalad, he thought that he and his companions were just seeing smoke from a fire. But then, they were surprised to witness that it was actually a tornado washing out some parts of their place.


It even lasted for almost an hour destroying some homes in the area, said Jefferson Mamauag, another resident who saw the tornado.


Based on the assessment of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) inTumauini, 2 houses made from light materials were wrecked in Barangay Santa Catalina while 8 more were slightly destroyed in Barangay Malamag West.


Tumauini DRRM Officer Jenny-Vi Palogan added that 11 families were affected by the tornado, all of which were given relief assistance and were recommended to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for  emergency shelter assistance. 


No residents were injured but power interruption took place as electrical cables were cut down.
