The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Debold Sinas, who also became infamous because of his birthday mañanita where health protocols were violated is set to retire on his 56th birthday on May 8.
With this, his successor is expected to be announced in just a few days as Interior secretary Eduardo Año is about to submit the list of contenders for the next PNP chief by Friday (April 30) in the office of the President.
According to Sinas, it is only Año who has the power to endorse a new PNP chief to the President.
However, as early as now there are few names being floated to replace Sinas and this includes Deputy Chief for Administration P/LGen. Guillermo Eleazar, Deputy Chief for Operations P/Gen. Joselito Vera Cruz, and Chief of Directorial Staff P/MGen. Israel Ephraim Dickson.
Sinas is only on his sixth month of being the PNP chief ever since President Rodrigo Duterte appointed him on 2020 bypassing the two highest-ranking police officers in the country.
