Filipino-Chinese man partially blind after assault in San Francisco

A 59-year-old Filipino-Chinese man was severely injured and now partially blind after he was violently attacked in San Francisco, California last Monday (March 15).

According to the report of Manila Bulletin, Danilo Yu Chang, from Vallejo, Solana Country,  was on his way back to work from a lunch break when he was beaten and punched several times on Market Street, at around 2 p.m.

He said that someone pushed him back and started hitting him until he lost his consciousness and woke up full of blood.

Since his eyes were severely beaten during the attack, Chang cannot still see using his left eye.

On March 16, the suspect named Jorge Devis-Milton, 32, was arrested by the San Francisco Police at around 9 a.m. The authorities saw no other motive for the attack other than racism.

From December 2020 to March 2021, Stop AAPI Hate, an online organization that monitors incidents caused by Anti-asian hate, already received more than 2,800 reports of Asian being assaulted in the state.
