77-year-old jeepney driver opts to beg alms on streets to earn money

Even though jeepneys are now already allowed on roads for how many months now, a 77-year-old jeepney driver from Manila still chose to beg for alms on the streets so he can earn more money for himself.

According to Alberto Manuel Jr., he has tried going back to being a jeepney driver however, his earnings were not enough, not even for his payment for the jeepney’s boundary.

He added that since he went back on driving a jeepney, he only earned P400 to P700 everyday after travelling along Rizal avenue from 10 in the morning until 5 p.m.

Mang Alberto is a widower. Her 29-year-old daughter is in Marilao, Bulacan while he is living alone in Manila  in a small space which he rents every month for P2,000.

Her daughter already urged him to go with her to Bulacan but the old man refused to because according to him, he already got used to living in Manila. He said that he will just continue begging alms to support his expenses.
