Bam Aquino Advocates for Increased Scholarship Funding and Job Security

Former Senator Bam Aquino has called for the expansion of the Free College Education Law to benefit more students, ensuring sufficient subsidies for school-related expenses and guaranteeing employment opportunities for Filipinos.

During a visit to student leaders at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Cagayan de Oro, Aquino—who is aiming for a Senate return in the 2025 elections—emphasized the need to align education with employment.

"In some countries, the Department of Education and the Department of Employment function as a single entity because the education system should naturally lead to suitable job opportunities," he explained.

Aquino stressed the importance of integrating schools, businesses, and the labor market to secure job offers for students even before they graduate. He also called for greater flexibility within the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) framework to allow schools to adapt their policies in response to industry demands.

As one of the principal authors of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, passed in 2017, Aquino positions himself as a champion for the people. His campaign focuses on addressing inflation, enhancing education, exposing cartels to reduce prices, increasing funding for teaching quality and technology in schools, and strengthening infrastructure development.
