Ready to cry and laugh more? Check out these upcoming k-dramas in 2021


Korean wave is not yet over  and it will never be, I guess. With their inspiring stories, jaw-dropping plot twists, and dazzling characters, one will surely be captivated even in just one glance. 


This 2020, we have been served with amazing k-dramas that really left a significance in our lives. Who would forget the dramas that made noise online like “Itaewon Class” which made us crazy over oppa Park Seo Joon, “It’s Okay not to be Okay” which literally made us cry a river because of its realistic portrayal of mental illness, trauma, and neurodiversity, “Hi, Bye Mama” that melted our hearts with the undying love of a mother to his daughter and her family,  and “Start-up” which made us laugh and thrilled with the love triangle of Seo Dal-mi, Nam Do-san, and Han Ji-pyeong.


In 2021, we will be more addicted to these Korean masterpieces as many of them will be released starting in January next year. You could prepare your watchlist as early as now because listed below are the line up of some most awaited k-dramas for 2021.

1. Hospital Playlist 2

“Hospital Playlist” is releasing its second season in 2021. It is a story of five friends who went to medical school and now work as medical practitioners in the same hospital. It narrates the challenges of each main character, and the problems one has when being and working in a hospital. The drama also shows some parts where doctors play calming and soothing music which we rarely see in real life. Based on some speculations, the important character of Doctor Ahn Chi Yong may not appear in the second season however there would be a lot of new supporting characters as the drama started to cast some actors and actresses to play supporting roles before they even started to film this December.

2. Love Alarm 2

After giving us the thrill of the complicated love story of the lead characters, Love Alarm is ready to serve us more chills as it is set to be released next year. The story of this drama is about a mobile application which was developed to notify the users if someone within a distance of 10 meters has a romantic feelings towards them. The female lead character, Kim Jo-jo suddenly found herself being involved in a complicated love triangle between his best friend Lee Hye-young and handsome model Hwang Sun-oh because of the love app.

3. Money Heist (Korean Adaptation)

Episodes: 12

Released Date: 2021 (Exact date is not yet specified.)


Another roller coaster ride drama is about to be released next year as Korean actors and actresses will do a remake of the famous spanish crime series La Casa de Papel. Money Heist is about the heist led by a professor named Alvaro Morte, who robs money from different banks but has no intention to kill or harm people. It also narrates the story of a criminal mastermind who casts a best group of people to attack the Royal Mint of Spain. With the amazing characters, hooking story, and cliffhangers of the original drama, many have high expectations with the Korean Adaptation directed by Kim Hong-sun and produced by BH Entertainment which are widely known for making high quality dramas.

4. Snowdrop

Released Date: May 2021 (every Saturday and Sunday)


Many fans are very eager to see “Snowdrop” because this will be the first ever lead role of Blackpink’s Jisoo together with Jung Hae-in. The story is set in 1987 when South Korea is still under a dictatorial government. A graduate student named Im Soo-ho  (Jung Hae-in) suddenly jumps in a female dormitory while covered in blood. The female lead,  Eun Young-Cho (Jisoo) then takes the risk and helps Im Soo-ho treat his wound. The story goes along until they develop a romantic relationship.

5. Sea of Silence

Episodes: 8

Released Date: Specific date is not yet specified.


The k-drama entitled “Sea of Silence” is expected to make noise in 2021 as it has the former Goblin and Train to Busan actor Gong Yoo, Bae Doona,  and Lee Joon as lead actors. It is a sci-fi mystery thriller adapted from the short film “The Sea of Tranquility” released in 2014. The drama is set in the future where desertification took place and lack of food and water occurred. A special team consisting of the main characters are given with the mission to retrieve a mysterious sample from an abandoned research laboratory based on the moon. Han Yoon-jae, portrayed by Gong Yoo, is the leader of the special task force.

6. Vincenzo

Released Date: February 20, 2021 - April 25, 2021 (every Saturday and Sunday)


“Vincenzo” is directed by Kim Hee Won and starred by Korea’s one of the hottest oppa Song Joong Ki and dazzling Jun Yeo Bin as the leading lady. The story revolves around an adult named Vincenzo Cansano who went to Italy at eight years old after being adopted and became a lawyer of mafia groups after some time. He went back to South Korea because of mafia wars he had been involved in. In South Korea, he  met a lawyer Hong Cha-Young who 

is a woman of determination. She does everything to win every case she has to handle. Time goes by and Vincezo falls in love with her. At the latter part of the drama, Vincenzo also achieves the social justice he wants in his own way.

7. She Would Never Know

Released date: January 18, 2021 - March 9, 2021 (Every Monday & Tuesday)


“She Would Never Know” is directed by Lee Dong Yoon. It is a romantic-comedy (rom-com) drama starring Yoong Song Ah as Won Ji Ah and Chae Hyun Seung as Ro Woon. The story revolves around the  people who work in a marketing team of a cosmetic brand and of course the unique love story of Won Ji Ah and Ro Woon.

8. Love Scene Number

Episodes: 8

Released Date: January 2021 - February 2021


“Love Scene Number” is a romantic drama that tells four different love stories of couples in their 20’s and 30’s  in every two episodes. It has four leading female actresses including Kim Bo-ra, Sim Eun-woo, Ryu Hwa-young, Park Jin-hee. On the other hand, male actors with main roles are Han Joon Woo and Kim Seung Soo.

9. Replay

Released Date: January 2021 - (nothing specified)


“Replay” is a fun-filled story about the misadventures, love, and dreams of a group of 18 year-old teens. The story will be told by replaying what happened in the past during the future thus the title “replay.” The main actresses are Cho Mi Yeon, and  Choi Ji Soo while the main actors include Kim Min Chul, Marco, Hwi Young, and Kwon Hyuk Soo.

10. Times

Episodes: 12

Released Date: February 20, 2021 - March 28, 2021


“Times” is a time-altering and political thriller drama. It is starred by Lee Joo Young who will act as Seo Jun In and Lee Seo JIn who will portray the role of Lee Jin Woo. In this story, Seo Jun In is a woman in 2020 who has the ability to communicate in the past through a phone call whereas Lee Jin Woo is a man in 2015 who teams up to save the life of the assassinated president in  the story.
